The City of Pickens, South Carolina
Tucked in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the City of Pickens offers residents and visitors a wide array of interesting, fun, and exciting activities, from shopping and eating to biking, to enjoying the natural resources, community events, and cultural activities that abound.
The City of Pickens Quilt and History tour is approximately 3-miles and is a free roaming tour that you choose where to start and stop while finding points of interst and opportunities to explore a wide variety of shops, eateries, and parks while following the Quilt and Tutrle Trails. The City of Westminster, South Carolina
The City of Westminster was founded in 1876 as a water stop for the Atlanta and Charlotte Air Line Railroad, Westminster has retained its historic legacy with more than 100 homes dating back to the late 1800s. Many local merchants and homeowners proudly display a quilt block on their building that is representative of a family heirloom.
Westminster is widely known for the Apple Festival that happens every year the week after Labor Day. It’s just a short ride from town to Chau Ram County Park You can enjoy swimming, fishing, hiking, and camping. Ramsey Creek Falls. The City of Walhalla, South Carolina
Founded in 1850 and located in Upstate South Carolina, Walhalla is a city rich in heritage where you will be on the “Main Street to the Mountains.”
Located in the Northwest corner of the state, Walhalla is one of the last South Carolina cities before trekking into the mountains for local hiking trails, or a short scenic trip to Lake Jocassee or Highlands, NC. The City of Walhalla is the terminus to South Carolina’s longest pedestrian and bicycle trail, The Palmetto Trail. The newly constructed Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park provides miles of world-class mountain bike trails.

The Pickens County Quilt and Bike Trail

The trail can be done either by car or by bike.
The bike trail makes a 38-mile round-trip loop in beautiful Pickens County.
The trail begins with easy cycling and becomes more mountainous and challenging as it proceeds north. Although it is primarily road biking, you can still enjoy some solitude, and beautiful vistas await you. The trail passes through the City of Pickens and through the northeastern section of Pickens County. Keep an eye out for hand-painted quilt panels (the connecting points of the trail). They are displayed on barns and places to stop and rest along the way. The quilt blocks as well as historical signage and other stops tell the story of northern Pickens County.
Suggested points to start the trail are either the Easley or Pickens Doodle Trail Trailheads. Both sites have parking and restroom facilities.
From Pickens Doodle trailhead take:
- E. Cedar Rock Street
- Right on Stewart Street
- Left on E. Main street,
- Turn right onto SC N178
- Continue to junction of Hwy 178 and Hwy 11 E. Turn right, follow Hwy 11E until you reach
- Hwy SC 8S toward Pumpkintown.
- Follow Hwy 8S back to PIckens Doddle Trail Park.
